We suggest parking your car in one of the Chepstow car parks (all are Pay & Display)
then walking back up the A48 from the traffic lights by St Mary’s Priory towards
Gloucester. You will cross the River Wye then the pavement turns into steps up to
the road bridge over the A48 and this is where you can wait for the walkers. The
Offa’s Dyke path sign posts from here to Sedbury Cliffs are not always easy to find
which is why we suggest waiting for the walkers who will have a guide with them.
Joining Point 2 – Buttington Tump - STOP PRESS! Car parking change - NP16 7HD
The SatNav code will get you to Buttington Hill but please watch out for signs to
Border Prayer Relay car parking and follow them instead of your SatNav! Please don’t
park on the main road when you see the Offa’s Dyke crossing sign on Buttington Hill
but turn left (there will be signs) up the dirt track and park in the field where
indicated. Walk back towards the main road and turn left along the Dyke path which
is signposted. You could wait for the walkers here or continue to Sedbury Cliffs
to wait for them there.
Directions to Chepstow
Our advice is to come via the A48, time-wise there isn’t much in it – but if you
take M5 you need to take the M4 West signs to South Wales (you will have to pay the
toll on the bridge too) – then follow the directions below From Bristol M4.
From Gloucester or Forest of Dean – A48:
The A48 will bring you into Chepstow over the River Wye to the traffic lights with
Tesco on the left and St Mary’s Priory Church on the right. Turn right at these traffic
lights then left into a car park opposite the church – see the map for other car
From Monmouth – A466:
The A466 will bring you down the Wye Valley and into Chepstow past the Chepstow Racecourse.
At the Racecourse roundabout take the 2nd exit and keep to 30mph! Continue through
traffic lights and the next roundabout is Highbeech roundabout so follow the directions
below From all southern routes.
From South Wales - M4:
Coming from Newport along M4, take the M48 just after the Magor Services. Take the
Chepstow exit and then the 1st exit off the roundabout then follow directions below
From all southern routes.
From Bristol – M4:
Stay on M4 and take the M48 exit if possible (it is sometimes closed due to high
winds or maintenance). The toll here is currently £5.70 for cars, then cross the
original Severn Bridge and take the 1st exit at the end of the bridge to Chepstow.
At the roundabout take the 3rd exit to Chepstow.
If M48 is closed (bad luck…) – continue on M4 over the new Severn Bridge – the toll
here is also £5.70 for cars - to Magor Services and take this exit, at the roundabout
take the 3rd exit signposted back to Bristol and the next exit signposted M48 to
Chepstow. Take the Chepstow exit and then the 1st exit off the roundabout then follow
From all southern routes.
From all southern routes:
Continue to the Highbeech roundabout and take the 3rd exit A48 to Chepstow.
Coming down the hill into Chepstow:
for the biggest car park at The Dell - turn left at the Pink Party Shop (you really
can’t miss it!) then follow the road around to the right and down to the traffic
lights then turn left onto Welsh Street and first right into The Dell – see the map
for other car parks
for car parks in lower Chepstow - turn left at the Pink Party Shop (you really can’t
miss it!) then follow the road around to the right and down to the traffic lights
then straight on through the Town Gate (the arch) and at the next junction bear left
down towards Chepstow Castle where there is a car park or turn right at the next
traffic lights and around the next right hand bend there is another car park at the
Drill Hall - see the map for details
for car parks near St Mary’s Priory Church – continue down to the traffic lights
and turn left, then left again into a car park opposite the church – if this is full,
turn left then left again, past the back entrance to Wetherspoons and turn right
at the next junction then follow the road around to the right and down towards Chepstow
Castle where there is a car park or turn right at the next traffic lights and around
the next right hand bend there is another car park at the Drill Hall - see the map
